Exploring the Most Popular Neighborhoods Around Your Conroe Apartment

Conroe Texas

Conroe is a city in Montgomery County, Texas, and is one of the biggest cities that surround the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area. A drive of around 40 miles north of Houston will get you to Conroe, where more than 87,000 people live.

Conroe is so popular that it’s one of the fastest-growing cities in the entire nation, according to data from the United States Census Bureau. The city is named after a man who built a sawmill in the area in the early 1880s.

As a large city of more than 87,000 inhabitants, there are many neighborhoods worth exploring in the community. Here are a few.

Downtown Conroe

Officially known as the Downtown Conroe Central Business District, this area of Conroe has some historic buildings, as well as some outdoor venues where the city hosts various festivals and celebrations.

Some of the buildings of note include the Crighton Theatre, which originally opened in 1935 and was renovated in the late 1970s for live-action theatrical productions. Downtown Conroe also features the Owen Theater, which is a 250-seat venue that hosts plays and musicals.

Several times a year, the downtown district’s Conroe Founder’s Plaza and Heritage Place hosts festivals and music performances, as well as days when craft vendors fill the area. The annual Cajun Catfish Festival, which has been an annual tradition since 1990, lures more than 25,000 people each year for its Cajun food and live performances.

Lake Conroe

One of the biggest draws for residents of and visitors to Conroe is the lake, which sits northwest of the city. Visitors can go boating on the lake, and fishing is also a popular pursuit. Fish routinely caught in the lake include bluegill, white bass, largemouth bass, and channel catfish.

The lake offers many additional activities for visitors and residents who can go hiking, swimming, kayaking, and golfing on and around the lake. There are also several marinas around the lake where visitors with boats can launch their vessels or find slips to store their boats.

For anyone who prefers to drive to their destinations rather than sail, there are several RV parks around the lake that accommodate all sorts of motor homes. You can find everything from basic parks with minimal hookups to resort-style parks with loads of amenities.

The Parks of Conroe

There are around a dozen parks across Conroe that are maintained by the city, and they feature everything from sports, courts, and playgrounds to open, grassy areas for relaxing. You might visit Heritage Place Park when it holds outdoor events at its amphitheater or Candy Cane Park, which is a 24-acre expanse that is one of the city’s most popular places.

Candy Cane Park features a playground, several sports fields, and the Heritage Museum of Montgomery County. You can also visit Historical Flag Park, which is a great place to go if you’re not from Texas, and you want to learn more about the “six flags” over Texas.
